After confirming the strategic options we had selected to take forward, we studied them to identify the different paths, known as ‘route corridors’, in which we could build a connection.
In 2014 we consulted on these different route corridors, making clear our early preference for corridors going north and corridors going south then under Morecambe Bay as they seemed to best meet the needs of the project. Of these we identified a single corridor as our emerging preference.
Feedback received alongside the findings from our own studies helped us confirm that we would be taking forward our emerging preference for further study. We announced the Proposed Route Corridor in June 2015.
When we made this announcement we published two documents:
This sets out the range of factors we are using to evaluate our chosen route corridor and determine the path a new connection will take within it.
